Elon Musk says the Biden administration Shot down his Carbon tax Pitch

Biden once again shows he’s no champion of the environment. His White House won’t ruffle the corporate feathers too much. And the power of the fossil fuel industry is still great. Why listen to a pioneer when you can stay in your Wall St. lane. But we knew all along that Biden is a friend of big business and a foe of progressivism:

Elon Musk says he pitched the Biden administration on instituting a carbon tax as a way to encourage a faster shift to renewable energy, but he was told the idea was essentially “too politically difficult.”

Musk described the conversation with the Biden administration during a new podcast with Joe Rogan that was released Thursday. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Rogan had asked Musk whether a new technological breakthrough is needed to increase the adoption of battery-powered vehicles. Musk argued the bigger issue is that “a hell of a lot of batteries [are] needed” in order to shift away from fossil fuels and toward renewable energy. The best way to encourage that shift, in Musk’s view, is to “put a price on carbon.”

Biden Deputy Press Secretary suspended for one week after threatening Politico Reporter

This is the kind of thing you would expect from the Trump administration:

White House Deputy Press Secretary TJ Ducklo has been suspended for one week following a report that he berated a Politico reporter last month, press secretary Jen Psaki announced Friday.

“TJ Ducklo has apologized to the reporter, with whom he had a heated conversation about his personal life,” Psaki said in a statement posted in a series of tweets. “He is the first to acknowledge this is not the standard of behavior set out by the President.”

Why is Louis DeJoy Still Running USPS?

Trump’s Antifa Obsession Diverted Feds From Right-Wing Threats: Officials

This was by design:

President Trump’s obsession with the bogeyman threat of antifa led law enforcement agencies to direct resources away from right-wing threats and may have affected their ability to anticipate and prepare for the far-right attack on the Capitol, current and former officials told The New York Times. The DOJ pulled some prosecutors and FBI agents away from assignments focused on white supremacists and asked them to instead investigate anarchist groups like antifa over summer, the officials said. One official was concerned enough to go to the agency’s independent inspector general.

Officials said efforts to alert colleagues to white supremacist activity were tamped down and mentions of “domestic terrorism” were discouraged. Requests for funding to track white supremacist activity online were denied. Meanwhile, threats of violence at the Capitol were visible on social media in the days preceding the Jan. 6 attack, an event for which law enforcement agencies have admitted they were unprepared.

A former spy for the KGB is making explosive claims about Russia’s efforts to “cultivate” former President Donald Trump as an intelligence asset.

In an interview with the Guardian, former KGB official Yuri Shvets claims that the then-Soviet government starting in the 1980s began to see Trump as a potential instrument for spreading anti-NATO propaganda.

In fact, Shvets says that Soviet agents even planted the idea of running for office in Trump’s head when he visited St. Petersburg and Moscow in 1987.

 

Proud Boys Leader Was ‘Prolific’ Informer for Law Enforcement

He’s a snitch. Might not go over well in prison–where he’s going:

Enrique Tarrio, the leader of the Proud Boys extremist group, has a past as an informer for federal and local law enforcement, repeatedly working undercover for investigators after he was arrested in 2012, according to a former prosecutor and a transcript of a 2014 federal court proceeding obtained by Reuters.

In the Miami hearing, a federal prosecutor, a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent and Tarrio’s own lawyer described his undercover work and said he had helped authorities prosecute more than a dozen people in various cases involving drugs, gambling and human smuggling.

Is Trump Selling Pardons?

Sounds like what Clinton did before he left office. Donald obviously needs the money. And so does Giuliani:

An associate of Rudy Giuliani told a former CIA officer a presidential pardon was “going to cost $2m”, the New York Times reported on Sunday in the latest bombshell to break across the last, chaotic days of Donald Trump’s presidency.

The report detailed widespread and in some cases lucrative lobbying involving people seeking a pardon as Trump’s time in office winds down. The 45th president, impeached twice, will leave power on Wednesday with the inauguration of Joe Biden.

The former CIA officer John Kiriakou, who was jailed in 2012 for leaking the identity of an operative involved in torture, told the Times he laughed at the remark from the associate of Giuliani, the former New York mayor who as Trump’s personal attorney is reportedly a possible pardon recipient himself.

“Two million bucks – are you out of your mind?” Kiriakou reportedly said. “Even if I had two million bucks, I wouldn’t spend it to recover a $700,000 pension.”

An associate of Kiriakou reported the conversation to the FBI, the Times said.

Proud Boys Intended To Kill Mike Pence and Nancy Pelosi, FBI Witness Says

This sounds very credible. If they murdered a police officer and assaulted others, why wouldn’t they have done what they threatened publicly–to kill Mike Pence and Nancy Pelosi:

An FBI witness says that members of the far-right Proud Boys had hoped to assassinate Vice President Mike Pence and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi during last week’s violent storming of the U.S. Capitol.

An FBI special agent made the claim in an affidavit as part of a criminal complaint against 43-year-old Dominic Pezzola, who is accused of taking part in the riot in support of President Donald Trump’s false claims that the presidential election was “stolen.” Pezzola, who is also known as “Spaz,” allegedly used a shield taken from a Capitol Police officer to smash a Capitol window before entering the building. An FBI witness said that the group Pezzola was with had discussed committing violent acts that went far beyond property damage.

“[The witness] stated that other members of the group talked about things that they had done during the day, and they said that anyone they got their hands on they would have killed, including Nancy Pelosi,” the affidavit, which was filed Wednesday, reads. “[The witness] further stated that members of this group, which included ‘Spaz,’ said that they would have killed [Vice President] Mike Pence if given the chance.”
