Criticism of Joe Rogan/Spotify Keeps Growing

They hoped it would go away. But the criticism of Joe Rogan and his poisonous views only gets worse. Spotify’s corporate damage control is not working. And the antivaxxer apologists for Rogan are losing:

Racist, Misogynist, anti-vaxxer, etc.

Protests, calls for accountability in Minneapolis after Amir Locke fatally shot by police

Lessons not learned in Minnesota;

Three days after Minneapolis police executing a no-knock warrant fatally shot Amir Locke, protests are expected to continue in the city as community members demand accountability for the death of a man remembered by family as a “bright light.”

Car horns blared in downtown Minneapolis on Friday as dozens gathered, temporarily clogging the street, in a car caravan protest calling for the firing of Officer Mark Hanneman, who shot Locke on Wednesday.

Body camera footage shows Hanneman shot Locke, a Black man, as the 22-year-old began to rise from underneath a blanket on the couch he was resting on early Wednesday. Locke was holding a gun his family says he was in legal possession of.

“We’ll stay in the streets until we get justice, period,” protester Courtney Armborst told CBS, adding that they were there in support of Locke’s family.

Woman gets $688.35 ER bill for spending 7 hours in the waiting room — without being treated

Insane. This is why we need Medicare for All. Because the current system is broken.

A Georgia woman spent seven hours waiting for emergency room staff to check out her head injury, and left before receiving any treatment. But the real headache began when the hospital billed her almost $700 for the visit a few weeks later.

“I didn’t get my vitals taken, nobody called my name. I wasn’t seen at all,” Taylor Davis told a local Fox affiliate.

She said that she went to Emory Decatur Hospital ER in July for a head injury, and waited as long as she could stand it. “I sat there for seven hours. There’s no way I should be sitting in an emergency room … for seven hours,” she said. So she went home. And was charged $688.35 for the ordeal.

Davis said she called the hospital after receiving the surprise medical bill, because she was convinced it was a mistake. But she says that she was told, “it’s hospital protocol even if you’re just walking in and you’re not seen. When you type in your Social [Security number], that’s it. You’re going to get charged regardless,” she said.

Virginia election spotlights Biden’s flailing party

The Democrats under Biden are self-destructing. Just as they did under Obama:

In a recent interview with The New York Times, prominent Florida-based trial lawyer and high-dollar Democratic donor John Morgan unloaded on his party for presiding over “a general feeling of not understanding why nothing can get done.” The Democrats’ inability to pass the far-reaching initiatives its members have spent weeks promoting is “single-handedly torpedoing” Democratic candidates and setting the stage for “a blood bath” of a midterm election cycle in 2022.

Morgan didn’t dwell on why Democratic ambitions are being frustrated, but some pollsters have. Their conclusions aren’t surprising: Those Democratic ambitions only resonate with Democrats. Among the voters in the middle of the electorate, whose consent is necessary to lubricate the gears of government, the sentiment around Democratic initiatives ranges from ambivalent to outright hostile. Thus, Democrats have set their Republican opponents up to once again be rewarded for doing, well, nothing at all.

Afghanistan Wedding Ends With Alleged Taliban Gunning Down Guests Due to Music Being Played

Does anyone believe anymore the Taliban can be reformed?:

A wedding in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province turned deadly on Friday after alleged Taliban members shot and killed three people during a fight concerning whether music could be played, according to local town residents.

At least 10 others were injured during the altercation, which took place after three gunmen demanded that the wedding party stop playing music, NBC News reported. Two residents of the area said they recognized the gunmen as local Taliban members.

US Trade Deficit Hits Record $73.3 Billion in August

It never gets better. Just worse. And along with trade deficits come the loss of good jobs. But U.S. corporations don’t care about that. They are reeking big profits by moving operations abroad to take advantage of cheap, repressed labor abroad:

The U.S. trade deficit increased to a record $73.3 billion in August as a small gain in exports was swamped by a much larger increase in imports.

The Commerce Department reported Tuesday that the monthly trade deficit increased 4.2% in August, rising to an all-time high, surpassing the previous record of $73.2 billion set in June. The trade deficit represents the gap between what the country exports to the rest of the world and the imports it purchases from other countries.

In August, exports rose 0.5% to $213.7 billion, reflecting revived overseas demand. But imports, even with all the supply chain problems at ports, were up an even stronger 1.4% to $287 billion.

The politically sensitive deficit with China surged 10.8% to $31.7 billion.

Even a pro-business outlet like CNBC has to admit that trade deficits are a bad for the U.S.:

China trade deficit has cost the US 3.7 million jobs this century, report says

The U.S. has lost 3.7 million jobs since 2001 due to its trade imbalance with China, with most of the damage done to manufacturing, according to a report released Thursday.

As the deficit has continued to swell, American workers have suffered, according to the Economic Policy Institute, a nonpartisan think tank in Washington, D.C., generally considered to be left leaning.

The facts speaks for themselves. Trade deficits began to appear in 1976. At around the same period manufacturing jobs in the U.S. began to decline. In the 1978 the number of manufacturing jobs peaked (month of December) at 19.3 million jobs (source: Bureau of Labor Statistics). They’ve been declining ever since then. Today about 7 million jobs are in manufacturing. Manufacturing is what built the American middle class.

There is clearly a connection between trade deficits and the loss of U.S. manufacturing jobs.

Kyrsten Sinema Upset Protesters Followed Her to Bathroom

Sinema is fond of mocking her critics. Now she’s upset that she’s being held to account for her betrayal of Democratic voters:

Senator Kyrsten Sinema is firing back at protesters’ "unacceptable behavior" after they followed her into a bathroom at Arizona State University over the weekend.

Videos posted to social media Sunday showed a group of people trail the Democratic lawmaker through a campus hallway. The group continued to berate Sinema as she entered a bathroom stall.

Remember this? I do.

Pandora Papers: Leaked Secret Documents Expose Hidden Wealth of World Leaders

Bombshell:

Hundreds of world leaders, powerful politicians, billionaires, celebrities, religious leaders and drug dealers have been hiding their investments in mansions, exclusive beachfront property, yachts and other assets for the past quarter-century, according to a review of nearly 12 million files obtained from 14 firms located around the world.

The report released Sunday by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists involved 600 journalists from 150 media outlets in 117 countries. It’s being dubbed the “Pandora Papers” because the findings shed light on the previously hidden dealings of the elite and the corrupt, and how they have used offshore accounts to shield assets collectively worth trillions of dollars.

But will it lead to anything? Or will it continue unabated?

Some 35 current and former leaders and more than 300 public officials are featured in the files from offshore companies, dubbed the Pandora Papers.

They reveal the King of Jordan secretly amassed £70m of UK and US property.

They also show how ex-UK PM Tony Blair and his wife saved £312,000 in stamp duty when they bought a London office.

The couple bought an offshore firm that owned the building.

The leak also links Russian President Vladimir Putin to secret assets in Monaco, and shows the Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis – facing an election later this week – failed to declare an offshore investment company used to purchase two villas for £12m in the south of France.

More Than Half of Police Killings Are Mislabeled, New Study Says

There needs to be an investigation. Will Congress act? No. Unless we demand it:

Police killings in America have been undercounted by more than half over the past four decades, according to a new study that raises pointed questions about racial bias among medical examiners and highlights the lack of reliable national record keeping on what has become a major public health and civil rights issue.

The study, conducted by researchers at the University of Washington and published on Thursday in The Lancet, a major British medical journal, amounts to one of the most comprehensive looks at the scope of police violence in America, and the disproportionate impact on Black people.

Researchers compared information from a federal database known as the National Vital Statistics System, which collects death certificates, with recent data from three organizations that track police killings through news reports and public records requests. When extrapolating and modeling that data back decades, they identified a startling discrepancy: About 55 percent of fatal encounters with the police between 1980 and 2018 were listed as another cause of death.
